Dr. Richard B. Baker, Jr.
(Emeritus)
Dr. Baker has committed himself to improving the lives of patients throughout his medical career. Upon completing his undergraduate work at the University of Colorado, Dr. Baker went on to Temple University Medical School where he received his medical degree in 1968. He furthered his education by interning at the Pennsylvania Hospital and undergoing orthopaedic training at the University of Pennsylvania.
Two years of active duty brought Dr. Baker to the Irwin Army Hospital at Fort Riley, Kansas. After that, he continued in private practice until 1983 when the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center opened its doors. Dr. Baker and Dr. William T. Jones sat at the helm and provided superior orthopaedic and wellness services to the residents of the Manhattan area. Their vision and dedication to keeping the community in motion has resulted in OSMC's development and growth, having resulted in the addition of several physicians and satellite clinics throughout Northeast Kansas.
Dr. Baker is board certified as a Fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Kansas Medical Society, the Riley County Medical Society, the Kansas Orthopaedic Society and the Mid-America Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Baker is a Board Member of the Mercy Health Center, past Board Member of St. Mary Hospital, past President of the Medical Staff (St. Mary's/ Memorial Hospital) and serves as Team Physician for the Kansas State University Athletics. Dr. Baker's scope of practice includes general orthopaedics, reconstructive joint replacement surgery, arthroscopy and sports medicine.
