Dr. Jones received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine where he was named a member of the National Medical Honors Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed an internship in medicine and surgery at St. Mary Hospital, San Francisco, California. His graduate medical training was completed in orthopaedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.

After serving three years in the United States Army at Fort Riley, Kansas, as a staff orthopaedic surgeon, he and Richard B. Baker, Jr. formed the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center in the summer of 1983, where he continues to practice.

His many interests in orthopaedics include total joint reconstruction, sports medicine, spine, foot and ankle surgery. He has been board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1981 and was named a Fellow in the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 1982. He is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He is also a member of the Big XII Team Physicians Society, and along with other members of OSMC, is a team physician for varsity sports at Kansas State University.
