We Can Help!

Balance Rehabilitation & Fall Prevention Program

Why you are dizzy, unsteady or afraid of falling.

Your body relies on three systems of input to maintain balance and proper stability.  The eyes provide visual awareness of your bodys position in relationship to your surroundings.  The inner ear is your most powerful balance tool and is referred to as the vestibular system of balance.  Your brain, muscles, bones, and joints make up the third component.  Receptors in your joints give information to the brain so that muscles can fire properly to maintain good stability.  Improper functioning of one or more of these systems can cause symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, instability, and lead to a fall.

How we can help.

Our program thoroughly evaluates all three areas that affect balance and stability.  Using Videonystagmography and FallTrak testing equipment, we will analyze the function of your visual and vestibular systems as they relate to balance and stability.  A comprehensive physical therapy evaluation is performed to analyze muscular flexibility, muscular strength, posture, gait mechanics, and core trunk stability.

Elements of our Balance Rehabilitation and Fall Prevention Program:

1.  Videonystagmography (VNG)

VNG is a series of tests that evaluate how well the eyes, inner ears, and brain

are functioning to help a person maintain balance and stability.

2.  FallTrak Balance Platform

The FallTrak is a dynamic force plate used to assess ones quality of balance and stability.  The FallTrak system has built in training protocols used as part of an individuals balance rehabilitation program.

3.  Physical Therapy

Our physical therapy department has staff specially trained in evaluation and treatment of balance and fall related health problems.  A comprehensive evaluation is performed and a unique, individual program is designed for each patient.  Balance rehabilitation programs include focused balance re-training, using equipment such as the FallTrak, and generalized conditioning in the areas of strength, flexibility, cardiovascular, and trunk/core stability.

Fall Prevention is Important

In the US, 1 of every 3 adults, 65 years or older, will fall each year.  Falls are the leading cause of injury related deaths among people 65 years and older.
